All For A Song, New Musical Based on the Life And Career of Kansas City Jazz Legend Myra Taylor; Composer Conrad Pope and Screenwriter Alessandro De Gaetano Team Up For Theatrical Production

(PRWEB) July 25, 2013

Santa Monica, CA: “All For A Song,” is a new musical based on the life and career of Kansas City Jazz Legend Myra Taylor, who wrote such hits as “Spider and the Fly,” “Take It Easy Greasy” and “Still Water.” She was also the first person to record the perennial classic “I Dont Want to Set the World on Fire,” with Harlan Leonard and His Rockets.

Hollywood film scorer Conrad Pope will compose the original music and create new arrangements for Taylors hits. Independent filmmaker and screenwriter Alessandro deGaetano will be writing the book and lyrics.

“All For A Song” begins with the untold story of the first USO Black Entertainers Unit during WWII. Myra, musical director Eubie Blake, and her fellow performers find themselves fighting their own battles with segregation on the Home Front in the 1940s, as they entertain troops at Army Bases and hospitals. It then follows Myra as she continues to tour military bases in Korea and Vietnam and eventually ends up owning her own nightclub beside the Rhine River in Frankfurt, Germany. After a string of bad luck and misadventures she finds herself back in her home town of Kansas City, at the age of eighty, living on Social Security. However, fate takes a hand, she is rediscovered and makes a triumphant come back as headliner for the 2001 Kansas City Jazz and Blues Festival.

Sadly, on December 9th, 2011, the music stopped for Ms. Taylor as she passed away at the age of ninety four.

Conrad Pope is well-known in Hollywood film circles for his work as a composer, orchestrator and arranger. Recent blockbuster, multi-nominated and award winning films include “Life of Pi,” “Moonrise Kingdom,” “Argo” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Black Pearl,” to mention a few. A classically trained musician, he is extremely proud of his work on “My Week With Marilyn,” starring Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branagh.

Alessandro deGaetano was a long time friend and colleague of Myra Taylors. His credits include writing and directing “MetalBeast” starring Kim Delaney and Barry Bostwick; the cult classic hit comedy “Butch Camp” starring Judy Tenuta and co-authoring the screenplay “Neowolf,” a horror film distributed by Lionsgate Releasing. DeGaetano also wrote and directed “Scoring,” with basketball legend “Pistol Pete” Maravich, in which Myra had a co-starring role.

The goal for the Kick Starter launch is to raise $ 14,000.00 to record five demo songs, with professional performers and finish the script. Upon completion a presentation package will becreated for industry producers and interested theatrical producing companies. The link is live and will run until September 3 at

Actress and singer Nichelle Nichols, a long-time fan of Myra Taylors, has graciously donated her time and taped a special introduction piece for the launch of the project. In it she speaks about Myras seventy-five year career, her appearances in television on The Jeffersons and resurgence as the headline act and poster girl for the Kansas City Jazz Festival in 2001. Ms. Nichols is perhaps best known for portraying Uhura in the original “Star Trek” television series, but her illustrious career began as a singer performing with Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton.

Composer Conrad Pope comments, “I am very excited to be working on “All For A Song,” as her life story encompasses such a rich legacy of American music. From the jazz age to swing era to contemporary pop music she did it all and worked with luminaries that included Harlan Leonard, Eubie Blake and Eddie Durham. It is a wealth to draw from and create new songs for the show.”

Continuing, Alessandro deGaetano adds, “Myras career, determination, perseverance and final triumphs are an uplifting story from which we can all learn. She traveled the world. She worked in juke joints and on the concert stage. She was a true female pioneer in the music industry and her songs continue to live this day. Im only sorry that she wont be here to see her outstanding legacy continue.”

Panama City Beach FL Hosts Successful Country Music Festival

Panama City Beach, FL (PRWEB) September 30, 2011

Panama City Beach tourism officials report that Some 20,000 people assembled in Frank Brown Park to enjoy the Fun Never Sets Country Music Festival. The 2-day festival was organized to encourage travel to Panama City FL, and provide a boost to hotels, like the Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort leading up the quieter fall season. Headline acts included two of country musics most popular names, Miranda Lambert and Jason Aldean.

Initially, tickets were only available through official lodging partners, such as the Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort, who sold hundreds of tickets as part of room packages for the weekend. Many guests we spoke to had never visited Panama City Beach before said Patrick Hazzard, General Manager of the Sandpiper. We were surprised by the number of people already planning to return.

Musical performances preceded both headline acts, including Justin Moore and Randy Rogers Band for Lambert, and Corey Smith and The Dirt Road Drifters for Aldean. People traveled to Panama City Beach from all over the country to see the concerts, including Colorados Jason Wickham who remarked, “It was wild and crazy. We were right out by the stage!

Funding for the concert series came in the form of a $ 1.3 million BP marketing grant. “All the revenues that were generated are going to go into helping [Panama City Beach Fl] do additional programs and events”, said Dan Rowe, President/CEO of the Panama City Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau.

As expected, the Country Music Fest was a relatively incident-free success. According to Panama City Beach Police Chief Robert Harding, “Our biggest concern was traffic and parking and neither of those were a problem”.

“I think everyone who went out to Frank Brown Park had a great time and talking to our lodging partners it accomplished our goal in being able to increase a lot of interest and brought a lot of folks to Panama City Beach in September,” according to Rowe.

The concert series comes at a time when Panama City Beach council members are discussing plans to erect an amphitheater at nearby Aaron Bessant Park, allowing more concerts to be held in the future. The $ 2.6 million proposal is not without its critics, with some local residents citing noise, traffic, trash, and even threats to endangered species as concerns. However, the overall consensus seems to be overwhelmingly positive, with the majority of residents believing the amphitheater will be an asset to Panama City Beach.

The Sandpiper Beacon Beach Resort is a family-friendly Panama City Fl Hotel. Known as the Fun Place the Sandpiper is committed to value; offering so many activities, amenities and entertainment that guests never have to leave during their vacation.

City – Sara Bareilles
sara bareilles lyrics

There’s a harvest each saturday night
At the bars filled with perfume and hitching a ride
A place you can stand for one night and get gone
It’s clear this conversation ain’t’ doing a thing
Cause these boys only listen to me when i sing
And i don’t feel like singing tonight
All the same songs

Here in these deep city lights
Girl could get lost tonight
I’m finding every reason to be gone
Nothing here to hold on to
Could i hold you?

The situation’s always the same
You got your wolves in their clothes whispering Hollywood’s name
Stealing gold from the silver they see
But it’s not me

Here in these deep city lights
Girl could get lost tonight
I’m finding every reason to be gone
There’s nothing here to hold on to
Could i hold you?

Calling out somebody save me i feel like i’m fading away
Am i gone?
Calling out somebody save me i feel like i’m fading

In these deep city lights
Girl could get lost tonight
I’m finding every reason to be gone
There’s nothing here to hold on to
Could i hold on to you?
