New NYC Jazz Voice – Vibraphone Virtuoso Tyler Blanton Brings His Group to Firehouse 12

(PRWEB) October 04, 2012

On Friday, October 5th, jazz vibraphonist Tyler Blanton will bring his group to Firehouse 12 as part of its Fall Annual Jazz Series. The group features saxophone titan Joel Frahm, paired with an in-demand young rhythm section of bassist Dan Loomis and drummer Jared Schonig. The group will perform mostly Blanton’s original compositions from his debut album Botanic (October 2010, Ottimo Records.) Deeply rooted the classic be-bop tradition, Blantons compositions imbue a deep sense of swing and lyricism, defining a fresh and accessible group sound and putting the vibraphone front and center.

Blanton has been regarded as “a young vibraphonist with strong lyrical footing” (Nate Chinen, The New York Times) whose “writing is intricate, but accessible. Lyricism and beauty are at the heart of things, but these guys can swing with authority as well” (George Fendel, Jazzscene). Jazz Inside NY raved “Blanton has an assertively bright, crystalline tone and values gregarious swing and melodiousness highly.”

Raised in Ojai, California, Blantons early exposure to jazz came by way of his grandfather, a big band saxophonist. After two years at Sonoma State University, Blanton graduated Cum Laude and had gained demand on the West Coast. In 2007 he made a permanent move to New York City. Within a short time, he has made a strong impact on the New York jazz scene. In recent years, he has performed and recorded with a host of leading musicians including; Donny McCaslin, Joel Frahm, Seamus Blake, Matt Clohesy, Richie Barshay, Matt Wilson, and Nate Wood, among numerous others.

While tradition is at his core, a musical philosophy of his improvising and composing is that of taking chances and stretching to new and unexpected places. The rest of the musicians are with him every step of the way. A cornerstone of Blantons ensemble, Saxophonist Joel Frahm, is featured heavily on six of the eight original tracks on Botanic. Widely known for his work with singer Jane Monheit, Frahm is highly regarded in the modern jazz scene as well. Sought after as a leading voice on his instrument, he has worked with artists such as Brad Meldhau and Kurt Rosenwinkle. His solos on Vestibule and Botanic raise the excitement level of the music, and tight melodic unisons on Good Ol Joel and Hemming and Hawing highlight the gorgeous blend of soprano and vibes. Bassist Loomis provides relaxed mobility, clean articulation, and light woody tone help weave together Already Here and Little Two. Drummer Schonig, a veteran of bands led by Wynton Marsalis, Dr. Lonnie Smith and many others, is both versatile and energetic. His musical sensitivity and driving rhythmic fire are best highlighted in the long, through composed Foreshadowing.

Botanic introduces Blanton as a promising improviser, formidable composer, and bandleader skilled far beyond his years. Jazz journalist Joseph Woodard best summed it up as sophisticated, swinging, and modern in the right ways, yet gutsy.”

NRCyrkle brings Rapper XV to Mass with Hendersin, DJ Ice, and Emilio Rojas on 4/26/12

Northampton, MA (PRWEB) April 14, 2012

XV http://iamxv.com/ is scheduled to start his L7 tour this month. L7, not referring to the Kicker subwoofer of the same name, but it refers to his motto; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ka9o3bwMw4 Love, Life, Loyalty & Living Long Like Legends. XV’s sound is similiar to Drake and his lyrics tend to play on words.

Like XV, Hendersin http://www.youtube.com/user/HendersinMusic has also been compared to Drake and his lyrics tend to play on words as well. This collision of talent is by no means a chance occurance. Hendersin will be supported by DJ Ice http://www.hendersin.com/dj-ice.html who is flying in from Los Angeles just to mixx it up at this show. DJ Ice, a long distance member of #TeamHendersin has DJ’d on both coasts (New York/New England and California) and has been seen spinning in clubs in both Japan and Thailand. For this event only, DJ Ice will be distributing free copies of his new unreleased mixtape “All Ice on Me” as well as Hendersin’s latest mixtape “iFly”The show will also feature Emilio Rojas http://emiliorojasmusic.com/ from Rochester, NY who works regularly with DJ Green Lantern http://www.djgreenlantern.tv/. This show will be filmed by videographer Ben Foley http://www.benfoleyofficial.com/ who has done on stage work with artists Mac Miller and Chris Webby.

Donavan Johnso aka XV knew he wanted to pursue a career involving music however, he did not become serious about the venture until a close friend passed away prior to him entering high school. His moniker, XV, the Roman numeral fifteen, refers to his age at the time he began his musical career. XV has worked with producer Michael “Seven” Summers since 2005. After releasing Everybody’s Nobody, XV received national attention and subsequently signed a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records in 2010. In an interview with HipHop DX, XV stated that his album The Kid With The Green Backpack is aimed to be released by Summer 2012 with Just Blaze serving as the executive producer.

Never a slave to the industry nor a victim to the problem, Tyronne Hendersin Henderson attempts to defy the odds by offering a combination of intellect, emotion, fun, and artistic punch lines. He never wears the mask of others, crediting his hometown and life experiences for his continued rise. Being local enabled word to travel fast and soon enough Hendersin was performing with the likes of Bostons own – Mr. Lif, the lyrical – Immortal Technique, Jurassic 5s – Chali 2na, Wu-Tangs – Raekwon, and 2010s top Freshman – Wiz Khalifa. Rather than take every show he could get, Hendersin focused his time on creating music and soon began producing his own beats. To date, he has compiled three mixtapes: On the Road, No Rhyme or Reason, and “Detour”, with a fourth, Henny in ya System, being released soon.

DJ Ice hails from Newport Beach, California and attended California State University, Sacramento where he learned how to spin from fellow member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, DJ Jonas Da Blenda from Club 102, 102.5 KSFM. From there he joined the Marine Corps and spun out in Japan and Thailand. Coming back to the states, he met Hendersin DJing bars and clubs in New England while also hosting parties at local colleges. He recently has been DJing in Los Angeles and is set to release his latest mixtape titled “All Ice On Me”

Having a cosign from fellow Rochester-native, and Hiphop’s DJ Green Lantern, (who has worked extensively with Eminem, Jay Z, Nas, etc) has solidified Emilio s place among today s most buzzing artists. Together the duo have released two mixtapes, The Natural and recent Life Without Shame , which feature production and guest appearances from Multi-Platinum and Grammy winning producers and artists, such as Boi-1da, The J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, Nottz, Needlz, B.o.B., Styles P, Killer Mike, Yelawolf, and more.

Ben is a young photographer/videographer that specializes in live on-stage shoots. He has done on-stage work for artists such as Mac Miller, Chris Webby, Moufy, Casey Veggies and others. He has been involved with David Horgan who has worked with names such as Will Smith, Marky Mark, New Kids On The Block, L.L Cool J and more.
